Street-side tour desks and kiosks sell day trips to Phi Phi Islands, Similan Islands, Ang Thong Marine Park, or James Bond Island at attractively low prices (800-1,200 THB). Once you show up at the pier, you discover the price does not include: national park entry fee (300-500 THB for foreigners), snorkel equipment rental (200-500 THB), lunch (200-400 THB), or speedboat transfer (vs. the slow longtail). You are stranded at the pier with no alternative. The actual total can be 2-3x the advertised price. Some operators also use overcrowded, uninsured boats without proper life jackets.
