When you ask a tuk-tuk driver, taxi driver, or helpful-seeming local to take you to a specific shop, restaurant, or tailor, they tell you it is 'closed today,' 'moved,' 'not good anymore,' or 'there was a fire.' Instead, they take you to a 'better' alternative — which is actually a business that pays them commission for delivering tourists. The original shop is perfectly fine and open. This happens frequently when asking to go to specific restaurants, tailors, massage shops, and even pharmacies. The commission-paying shop is typically more expensive and lower quality.
